The Eager Eagles Leo Club consists of seventh and eighth grade members who volunteer service to their school and community. Teacher sponsors along with club officers and members have collected coats and eyeglasses, made crafts and cards, visited nursing homes, planted trees and cleaned up a neighborhood park. Awards are given by the sponsoring Lions Club of Uniontown for service hours.
Inspiration for our Robotics Club came from Carnegie Melon University's Arts and Bots program. Through a grant from the Community Foundation of Fayette County, students in our seventh and eighth grade classes can participate in the afterschool program. The student's use Hummingbird Kits, servo motors, LED lights and sensors along with arts and craft items to construct and then program their robots.
In addition to the Hummingbirds, the students also use Lego EV3 Robotics Kits. The students build and program robots using Lego bricks and then program the to complete courses. The club is currently offered to our seventh and eighth grade students.
The St. John the Evangelist Regional Catholic School Math Club was formed for the purpose of review, extra practice, and enrichment in the areas of Math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra. The sixth grade meets on Tuesday after school from 2:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. The seventh and eighth grade group meets on Wednesday after school from 2:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Any student from those grades is invited to join us for learning and fun! The members of the reading team read selections of books from a list, given by the Uniontown Library, to prepare for the competition.
Some of the books previously read are Golden Boy, Left For Dead, Counting by 7's, Small As An Elephant, and many others.
The competition is held in May at St. John Byzantine School. Various schools from our area compete.
