Altar Servers
Boys and girls in fourth through eighth grade, who are members of St. John the Evangelist Parish, may become knights or lady knights of the altar.  Students should understand that it is a joy and privilege to serve at the altar of God, and that they will be officially representing the people of the parish.
All altar servers should attend Mass regularly and receive the sacraments.  An altar server must be reverent, respectful and maintain excellent conduct during training sessions, in the sanctuary, while serving, and attending Mass. Finally, knights and lady knights must be extremely faithful to the schedule published.   Students from other parishes are encouraged to contact their parish priest regarding their home parish's ministry policy and training process. Upon graduation from eighth grade, the altar server has the option to begin training as a high school acolyte (Grades 9-12).

Students in fourth through eighth grade give of their time, both after school and for special weekly practice sessions. The choir leads the student body in singing during school masses.

Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science
St. John the Evangelist Regional Catholic School junior high students have participated in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) competition for more than 25 years and has been recognized for having the highest percentage of first place winners in the region.

Forensics competition is offered to the junior high students.  The students compete against area diocesan students in dramatic and humorous categories.  Our students have always received a high percentage of first place winners.

Leo Club
The Eager Eagles Leo Club consists of seventh and eighth grade members who volunteer service to their school and community.  Teacher sponsors along with club officers and members have collected coats and eyeglasses, made crafts and cards, visited nursing homes, planted trees and cleaned up a neighborhood park.  Awards are given by the sponsoring Lions Club of Uniontown for service hours.

Reading Team
The members of the reading team read selections of books from a list, given by the Uniontown Library, to prepare for the competition.
Some of the books previously read are Golden Boy, Left For Dead, Counting by 7's, Small As An Elephant, and many others.
The competition is held in May at St. John Byzantine School.  Various schools from our area compete.
